Welcome to Shout Like a Trumpet, our reflections on Lent and racism. While it is always useful to spend some time reflecting on oppression and how it impacts our lives, the growing movement against racialized police brutality since the killing of Michael Brown makes it all the more apropos for this year’s Lent.

The title, Shout Like a Trumpet, comes from one of the Ash Wednesday lectionary readings:

Shout out, do not hold back!
Lift up your voice like a trumpet!
Announce to my people their rebellion,
to the house of Jacob their sins. (Isaiah 58:1)

We offer these resources for individuals and church communities as ways to remember the injustice that remains and as suggestions for breaking the silence that inhabits so many white churches in the face of continued racial injustice.

Daily Reflections will be posted every day throughout Lent (except Sundays). Worship Resources will be posted at least a week in advance of the service to allow for preparation.

Please subscribe (using the link in the sidebar) to receive updates throughout Lent, and share widely, especially with pastors.
